So, why is Macbeth so great?
There are many reasons why Macbeth is so great, in fact, we have already seen why! The themes, storyline, characters, historical background and relevance in society are all true reasons why so many people enjoy the play.
What is truly great about Macbeth, I believe, is the in depth content focussing on what power can do to a person, and ambition too. It shows that not only regular people have struggles like these, but people like Macbeth do too. Even though it was written by William Shakespeare so many years ago, Macbeth is still so relevant for reasons such as this. Power and ambition are still a problem for some people today.
Other reasons for the play being so great include:
- The themes being so relevant in our world. Ambition, fate and violence impact the people of today immensely, and by reading Macbeth, you realise the many lessons learnt by the characters because of these things.
- The storyline is so creative, even in today's literature, that it keeps you wanting to know more.
- The characters in Macbeth are quite individual, and have their own traits and characteristics, which is entertaining to see what happens to them in the end.
- What makes the play even better is the understanding that it is actually distantly based on a true story! Knowing that there actually was a real Macbeth, who did kill Duncan and a few others is quite interesting, and, in a way exciting. It makes you want to research who the man was!
